The Role:

The PSL’s main role will be in relation to current awareness, deal tracking, standard form documentation, practice notes and assisting in training initiatives. There will also be a role in client alerts and newsletters.

In more detail, it will include:

1 Know-how
• Conducting deal debriefs and devising the appropriate means of obtaining and collating the know-how and making it available as an internal resource on the firm’s intranet
• Reviewing external information sources to monitor current developments in the law and practice
• Collating and reporting on current developments (current awareness) for the internal fortnightly bulletin and other postings
• Preparing or co-ordinating the production of alert memos and other briefing notes reflecting the London office’s know-how expertise and other developments in law and practice for the lawyers in the firm and potentially for clients and contacts of the firm
• Participating in the practice group meetings and providing briefings as necessary.

2 Documentation
• Originating, developing and keeping up to date standard form documents covering the London office’s core activities
• Developing and keeping up to date practice notes, guidelines, checklists and other learning aids to support the standard form documents.

3 Training
• Participating in the provision of education and training to the lawyers by talks, briefing sessions, workshops and inter-office conferences to enhance the quality of legal advice given to clients and to enhance their understanding of a transaction, its legal technical components, the role of the lawyer and the objectives of clients in a commercial context
• Participating in the supervision and training given to trainees in the London office
• Participating in the development of other skills training for the lawyers in the London office.

The PSL will report directly to the Head of Legal Education in relation to know-how, standard form documentation and training and will work closely with the Director of Knowledge Management - Europe and Asia in relation to the firm’s IT knowledge management infrastructure and support. There are two Legal Information Specialists (who have a legal training) and part of the role will involve supervision of some of their work.

The position can be either full-time or part-time

The Successful Candidate:

The firm are looking to recruit a lawyer of upwards of 3 yrs pqe. The candidate need not have had prior PSL experience but should have practised as a lawyer in Capital Markets, M&A or Finance.
